Caring About Pro Football …
… is irrational. And I’ve got my irrationality firmly in check, yessir I do. I have rules about how much I let myself care.
1) I only really care about the Pittsburgh Steelers, and that’s because I went to high school in Upper St. Clair, Pa., way back in the 1970s.
2) But I try to care about football only for as long as the Steelers are in contention. I don’t want caring to take up a lot of my time. So, technically, the season has been over for weeks now. I did not watch a game all year.
3) Unfortunately, caring about the Steelers has made me irrationally dislike the New England Patriots, even though I have lived in New England about seven times longer than I lived in western Pennsylvania.
4) So I’m rooting for the Giants. Because … well, I irrationally dislike the Patriots, as does my brother, and I grew up as a Giant fan in New Jersey, because my dad was a Giant fan and still is.
But I’m not going to watch the game.
Though I do like Tom Petty.
Hmmm.
Nahh.
I don’t care. I don’t.
Update 10:07 p.m. : So, I watched Tom Petty, who was not as good as the Stones were last year, or Paul McCartney the year before. But still pretty good for an old guy.
And I watched the last two minutes of the game, which was exactly the right amount. And Plaxico Burris, he used to be a Steeler. So, well. That was quite something, huh?
If you care about football. Which I don’t.
